Understanding Wildlife Loss and Its Real Causes
The recent report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) highlights a 73% decline in wildlife populations (vertebrates) over the past 50 years, a statistic described as both “staggering” and “catastrophic.” While the conventional narrative often attributes this loss primarily to climate change, a growing body of research suggests that this perspective may oversimplify the causes of biodiversity loss and overlook other significant factors that play a more prominent role, including: habitat loss, pollution, overexploitation, invasive species, fragmentation, and agricultural practices.
